While watching one of Corman's Poe movies starring Vincent Price, my wife observed that Vincent was all about the wrong kind of love: selfish, obsessive, murderous, and in all ways unsavory. The observations fits an amazing amount of Mr. Price's horror roles, and we began to look forward to watching for the wrong kind of love in his movies.
The lyrics are inspired by the Russian reversal and by the innuendo of 1920s parlor jazz.
lyrics
Love can burn
But if you burn your love
It's the wrong kind of love
Love can stab
But if you stab your love
It's the wrong kind of love
And you can love your sister
But please don't love your sister
Maybe you'd be better served by not falling in love
Love is in the eye of the beholder
In the beheld's eye there is only fear
Keep friends close
Put foes underground
Save mementos of those your held dear
Love is blind
But if you blind your love
It's the wrong kind of love
Love may smother
But if you smother your love
It's the wrong kind of love
And you can bury your love
But please don't bury your love
I think we'd all be safer if you stayed out of love
Yes, maybe you'd be better off never falling in love
No, Vincent we are begging you to please not fall in love
